Overnight oats is, quite simply, one of the best recipes for a delicious, nourishing, grab and go breakfast whatever the weather. I’ve been hooked on it during the summer months, and with college kicking off I’ve kept up the habit. Yes, it’s a cold breakfast, but I still love it. I find it really refreshing in the mornings, and because I commute early to college from the gym, I need a meal prepped breakfast to take with me. But FYI, if you’re feeling a porridge vibe here, just go microwave happy on the ingredients below! I’ve linked one of my older oats recipes here, as I used to soak the oats overnight before microwaving in the morning, so feel free to try that either!
Note: If you want to add a protein punch to these recipes, just add a scoop of your protein powder of choice, and add an extra 100ml (approximately) of liquid (either milk or water).
Recipe (Serves 1)
Chocolate, Ginger & Berry
Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp cacao powder
- 1 handful of blueberries
- 1 tbsp of nut butter of choice
- 1 tbsp of whole chia seeds
- 1 40g serving of oats (oatlets or jumbo oats is fine)
- 200ml of milk
- Optional for Topping: Dark chocolate chips
Method
- Super simple – combine the above in a small tupper-ware or mason jar.
- Once mixed well, store overnight and in the morning, top with extra blueberries and the chocolate chips!
Apple & Cinnamon
Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon
- 1/2 green or red apple (keep the second half for topping!)
- 1 tbsp whole chia seeds
- 1 tbsp of nut butter of choice (peanut butter goes really well here!)
- 40g of oats
- 200ml of milk
Method
- Super simple – leave the apple aside, and combine the above in a small tupper-ware or mason jar.
- Grate the apple on top, and then mix it in.
- Store overnight, and in the morning, slice the other apple half on top and some extra cinnamon if you like!
Chunky Monkey – Peanut Butter & Banana
Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 whole banana
- 1 tbsp whole chia seeds
- 1 tbsp of peanut butter
- 40g of oats
- 200ml of milk
Method
- Super simple – leave the banana aside, and combine the above in a small tupper-ware or mason jar.
- Slice half the banana into coins, and set aside for topping.
- If you want to really get the banana flavour in, I recommend mashing the second banana half until it’s more liquid in texture before mixing it into your oats. Trust me – try it!
- Store overnight, and in the morning you’re good to go!
